Dubrovnik Villa Accommodation
Shaped like a towel carelessly draped on the rugged Adriatic
coast, Croatia is a land moulded by the industry of its people
and the ebb and flow of powerful physical, religious and
cultural tides.

Dig a little and you find traces of man from well before the
Bronze Age. Turn a stone and watch successive waves of
Illyrians around 1000 BC, Greeks in the 6th Century BC, Celts
in the 4th Century BC, and Romans for the five Centuries until
AD 285 when the first Dalmatian Emperor emerged, wash
against these time worn lands.

Venice, the Hapsburgs, Napoleon and the dreams and tribulations of Yugoslav Nationalism have all in their turn twisted the fabric of Croatian life.

The tumultuous events of the 1990’s have deeply scarred the people of Croatia. Today this beautiful country is emerging again into the sunlight of the global village. All around tourism is flourishing, the physical scars of war are disappearing, and new challenges and opportunities are helping to bring new hope to young and old alike.

Expect to find a country well endowed with natural beauty. The magic of the Dalmatian archipelago with 1000 islands studding the turquoise Adriatic is impossible to resist. Equally stunning are the awesome beauty of Plitvice’s and Krka’s waterfalls, the distant and quiet spaces of Risnjak, and the tortured rock formations of Paklenica and the Kornati Islands.

Expect beauty also in the works of man. Inspiring works in stone by great architects who, often influenced by Venetian or other western styles, brought their own unique interpretations and crafted the willing Dalmatian stone. Fine examples of Roman, Byzantine, Gothic, Baroque and Italian Renaissance style can be found in the many centres were art and artistry have found appreciation and patronage over the centuries.

Here is a land where little has come easily, where much is to be enjoyed and cherished, and where a proud people are building on a complex and often surprising heritage.
