In 2006 we were on holiday visiting Turkey and Greece. Croatia
was added onto the trip in the last stage of planning because
we heard it was beautiful.
We stayed in a small hotel in Cavtat and the next day took a
small boat to travel to Dubrovnik. So our first view was the
fortress and it looked formidible. The small port and walking
through the streets into the Stradun just topped it off. Having
seen many ruins in Turkey and Greece we had had a glimpse
at the history of this area of the world, but Dubrovnik, far from
being a ruin, was alive and well. So that did it, we just stood
there soaking in the history and the vibrancy of the place and
so started our love affair with Dubrovnik!
After a week on a boat visiting some of the many islands around Croatia we came back to Dubrovnik and thought it might be fun to see what properties were available. You need to keep in mind that we were not planning on buying anything, just looking.....
That is when we fell in love with our Villa up on the hill directly above the old town. In 24 hours we had met all the appropriate people that would enable the purchase and repair work required so we decided to make the leap. At the end of 2006 we were the proud owners of Od Srda 22 which we have now called Villa Antipodes. Why the name, well Croatia is nearly opposite New Zealand, our home.
In 2007 we returned to Dubrovnik and commenced the repair work on the Villa which ended up being a lot more extensive than our original plan - new plumbing and electrical wiring throughout the house. Our contractors and builders did a great job of getting the work all done in the agreed time. The container of furniture arrived from New Zealand and hey presto, we had a villa to rent.
Cvjetko and his team now manage the property to ensure it is kept spick and span and ready for our guests where ever they come from. He can organise to get you to the Villa and will have someone show you where everything in the Villa is. The computer in the lounge has a link to our website that gives you lots of information about the villa and there is a printed manual as well. The website also has lots of information on how to find your way around Dubrovnik, and what you can do while you are there.
We trust you have a wonderful time in Dubronvik and enjoy your time in our Villa Antipodes.
